The Canal Boat Adventure Project based in Runcorn have just been advised that they are finalists in the National Training Awards. The Ceremony wil be held later in the year at a venue in Manchester, we will keep you posted.
The project also recently received national recognition when Gordon Brown addressed the audience at a recent conference.
The Prime Minister recognised the projects successes, after meeting 10 of the young project members the previous day for afternoon tea at 10 Downing Street.
The Prime Minister discussed the successes of the project as a ‘perfect example’ of how these types of youth projects are reaching young people from deprived and ‘difficult’ families, around the country and helping the youngsters to turn their lives around.
He said “all had problems in their early teens, some had drug families, some had families with criminals, some were simply part of broken families…they all told me the story of the previous years, all pupils had been excluded from school and as a result of this project….each of them had a plan for the future, one wanted to be a teacher, one was already a carer, one talked of going to university and one wanted to be an architect.”
Well done to all involved….if you would like to listen to the Prime Minister’s speech click on the link here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vi-IJjxFmeM
